85 Main recently updated

Jun. 14—PUTNAM — Like other businesses, the pandemic has been a challenging time for 85 on Main. But when business slowed down, the owners of the restaurant saw it as an opportunity to freshen up their business by making repairs and doing other work.

" We got a lot done in the last two years," said Barry Jessurun, who is president/ chief executive officer of Green Valley Hospitality Group, which owns 85 Main.

The restaurant is at 85 Main St. in Putnam.

Work that was done at the business includes repairs and touch-up work.

" We still have a few other things on the list, but more in the back of the house," Jessurun said.

That includes redoing the flooring in the prep kitchen, as well as redoing part of the floor upstairs in the back of the restaurant.

85 Main was the second restaurant opened by Green Valley Hospitality Group, opening in June 2005.

" We wanted it to be an urban- style restaurant in a country town," Jessurun said.

The philosophy behind 85 Main is "sourcing local" and serving quality, hand- prepared foods. He said customers visit the restaurant from the tri- state area.

" Putnam has become like a little destination town," Jessurun said. " We're just happy to be part of it."

Renovations that were done to 85 Main over the years include an expansion of the bar, installation of a patio and addition of a wine cellar.

There are two wine lists: a main list, which has about 30 wines on it, and wine cellar list, which has about 25 wines on it. Some popular items at the restaurant are sushi and raw bar items.

Jessurun said sushi accounts for about 20 percent of the sales at 85 Main.

" It's very popular," he said. Other restaurants owned by Green Valley Hospitality Group are Vanilla Bean Cafe in Pomfret, Dog Lane Cafe in Mansfield and Fenton River Grill in Mansfield.
