9-1-1: Lone Star fans will have to wait a bit longer for new episodes of the show, a disappointing update has revealed.

In May, it was announced that the show, starring Rob Lowe, had been renewed for a fifth season.

However, Deadline reports that Fox's 2023-2024 schedule will no longer include 9-1-1: Lone Star, with new episodes now expected to air next autumn rather than in the spring as previously hoped.

These delays are a result of the recent Hollywood strikes, including the SAG-AFRTA strike which only came to an end earlier this month.

While there were originally set to be 18 episodes in the new season, this has been reduced to 12 episodes which will air towards the end of next year.

9-1-1: Lone Star follows the fire, police and ambulance departments of the fictional Station 126, set in Austin, Texas. Last season, the show was Fox's second-highest-rated and most-watched drama.

Alongside Lowe, the show stars Gina Torres (Suits), Ronen Rubenstein (Orange Is the New Black), Sierra McClain (Empire) and Jim Parrack (True Blood).

The delay will be very frustrating for fans, as season 4 ended with a shock twist that saw Carlos's dad Gabriel fatally shot just days before his son's wedding.

Earlier this year, the franchise's flagship show, 9-1-1, was cancelled by Fox after six seasons on air, before being picked up by ABC for a seventh season that is also set to premiere next year.

"It has been an honour to be the founding network of 9-1-1," said Fox in a statement. "We are grateful to… the cast and crew, and 20th Television for delivering such an impactful series to Fox. We wish them well after 9-1-1's final Fox season concludes."

9-1-1: Lone Star airs on FOX and Hulu in the US and Sky Witness in the UK.
