Update: All nine restaurants have reopened to customers.

A letter from the Monroe County Health Department was posted in Bloomington area Subway shops on Monday as health officials closed nine area restaurants because they were operating without a proper food license issued by the county. The health department reported the closures were due to a change of ownership.

According to Indiana code, a food license cannot be transferred when ownership of a business changes. The health department and the restaurants' new owner are working "diligently" to complete the necessary paperwork and inspections to bring the restaurants back into compliance, according to information provided by Kathy Hewett, public information officer with the health department.

The shops are at 319 Winslow Road, 4623 Richland Plaza, 350 W. Bloomfield Road, 4001 Old Ind. 37, 2886 E. Third St., 1799 E. 10th St., 907 S. College Mall Road, 1839 N. Kinser Pike and 3480 W. Third St. According to the notice, the nine are under the operation of SUBIN LLC.

At noon Monday, the shop on Winslow Road still had its lights on with the notice posted at the door. Inside an employee was moving bread out of ovens. Farther south, the shop near the southside Kroger was dark.

The Herald-Times has reached out to the health department via emails and phone.
