9 more COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota as active cases continue to hit record highs

Another nine South Dakotans have died with COVID-19, according to data released Thursday morning by the South Dakota Department of Health.

Another 2,588 confirmed and probable cases sent the state's active case total to 34,086, setting a new overall record for the third straight day this week.

The deaths were among one woman and eight men: one age 50-59, one age 60-69, three ages 70-79 and four ages 80 years or older.

Hospitalizations increased to 403. Department data showed 30.7% of hospital beds in the state available, along with 35.7% of adult ICU beds.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 78.6% of the state's vaccine-eligible population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 62.7% of the state's vaccine-eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
