9-year-old arrested, allegedly shot and killed family member

TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — A 9-year-old is in the custody of the Tooele City Police Department after they allegedly shot and killed a family member on Friday, Feb. 16.

Tooele City PD Cpl. Colbey Bentley said the incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. near 400 West Millcreek Way. Bentley said the 911 call reported a 32-year-old man appeared to be unconscious and bleeding from the head.

First responders said the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and took him to a Salt Lake-area hospital in “extremely critical” condition. The man later died from his injuries.

Bentley said officers and detectives began investigating the incident, which eventually led to the arrest of a 9-year-old family member. Due to the age of the suspect and the “extremely sensitive nature” of the case, more information was not available for release.

Tooele City Police said there is no threat to the public at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
