Virginia Beach couple Tarik Myers and Hazel Cagalitan got one step closer to becoming a trio on Sunday night’s episode of “90 Day Fiancé.”

Myers found a dating app specifically for couples looking for girlfriends, and the pair talked about rules and expectations while browsing.

“I have no idea how this is going to turn out for our relationship, and that concerns me,” he said to the camera.

When he asked her what kind of women she prefers and threw out some ideas, she gave TLC the rundown, noting she wants someone attractive and likes American women.

Myers also had rules of his own.

For starters, no other women will meet his daughter, Ari, who lives with him five days out of the week.

“No matter how far it goes, I just can’t have a girlfriend around Ari,” he told Cagalitan. “It would have to be like, you know, the time when Ari is with her mom.”

He also said once they find a woman to join them, they must tread carefully due to their history with the green-eyed monster, jealousy.

The pair previously had a girlfriend, Minty, who Myers met while they were broken up.

Cagalitan felt left out and asked him to stop speaking to her, only he checked on her at the onset of the pandemic.

“Having a girlfriend is always what I wanted, but my relationship with Tarik is more important, so I just hope it feels different than the last time with Minty,” Cagalitan said to the camera.

At one point, she seemed to doubt herself as they looked at the women on the dating app.

“Do you think there is a girl who gonna like me for real?” she asked him.

Myers assured her someone would because she’s beautiful and smart.

“The question is are they going to like me,” he said.

Cagalitan also talked about growing up bisexual and how confusing it was for her. She didn’t understand the concept of bisexuality, but knew she liked both men and women.

She also revealed that she isn’t the only person in her family who feels this way.

“In the Philippines, I need to hide myself being bisexual because one of my sister is bisexual too,” she said to the camera. “My parents, they are very angry. They say it is not acceptable.”

Now that she’s in the U.S., she’s more comfortable being herself, she said.

Viewers on Twitter and Reddit have questioned whether all is what it seems in their relationship.

Some theorized that Cagalitan wants a girlfriend for herself, and that Myers would only be a spectator versus a participant.

Others expressed frustration with the way he talks about Cagalitan’s bisexuality, and side-eyed his attraction to Asian women. Some viewers think he fetishizes Asian women, or has an excessive or irrational commitment to them.

In a Reddit thread on Dec. 17 last year, one user said he “makes it sound like he’s not comfortable/thrilled with the idea of Hazel/the two of them having a girlfriend, but then says something like ‘but Hazel is bisexual, so hey, what’s a guy to do?!.”

The user said Catalitan and Myers’ relationship makes it seem like bisexual people can’t be in happy, monogamous relationships.

“He’s just perpetuating the false idea that people who are bisexual are more likely to cheat or not be able to settle down,” read the post, which received over 1,000 upvotes.

Their search wasn’t the only topic of discussion during their segment.

The camera crew captured the moment Myers found out about Gov. Ralph Northam’s mandatory shutdown in March 2020.

Northam ordered all schools to be closed until the end of the academic year and said many nonessential businesses needed to close.

Filming was temporarily halted and the crew left.

“If feels like everything that we planned for the experience of our 90 days has been robbed,” Myers said to the camera.

Still, he said, they’d do what they could.

“We’re just going to make the best of it until this thing is done,” he said.

“90 Day Fiance” airs 8 p.m. Sundays on TLC.
