90% of Ukraine aid funds spent in US — Secretary Blinken

As much as 90% of the money Washington allocates for assistance to Ukraine is being spent within the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a press conference on Dec. 20.

The aid in question is security assistance, spent "to the benefit of American business, local communities, and strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base," Blinken said, according to Voice of America.

He noted that should the U.S. Congress approve additional aid for Ukraine, it would benefit Americans and businesses, as well as allies and partners of the United States. Otherwise, Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing stand to gain, the secretary remarked.

Blinken assured that Washington is prepared to continue supporting Kyiv in the coming year.

He also mentioned that the United States has a "clear plan" for Ukraine’s development, which means that as the country becomes self-sustaining, there would be no need to sustain U.S. assistance at it current level.

In November, The Washington Post reported that the majority of U.S. military aid to Ukraine is spent in the United States The funds are used for manufacturing new weapons or replacing the weapons sent from U.S. stocks.

Since October, the U.S. Congress has been unable to agree on additional aid for Kyiv, without which the Pentagon will be unable to send military assistance packages starting in 2024.

U.S. senators believes a decision on providing aid to Ukraine will not be made before January 2024.
