Good morning, Memphis, where most of us are returning to work from an extended Thanksgiving weekend and searching for the best deals this Cyber Monday.

Vacant since 2014, the building at 100 N. Main is the tallest building in Downtown Memphis, and walking inside it is like a time capsule, our Corinne Kennedy reports in this story for subscribers.

One of six developers will likely get the property from the Downtown Memphis Commission and hope to transform it into something vibrant to breathe life back into the most prominent pieces of Memphis’ skyline.

For a look inside of 100 N. Main, check out Ariel Cobbert’s photo gallery of the building.

Two companies identified in analysis of high-risk emissions

A new project from ProPublica modeled years of air emissions data from the Environmental Protection Agency to identify hotspots in the country.

Two hotspots are found in the Memphis area, our Micaela Watts reports in her story for subscribers.

SFI of Tennessee and Stella Jones Corporation were flagged by the ProPublica investigation as two facilities identified as primary contributors to elevated cancer risks in their respective areas.

Who’s on the board to oversee Ford Project?

Four names were confirmed for the newly created Megasite Authority of West Tennessee board to oversee Ford’s $5.6 billion project, our Omer Yusuf reports in his story for subscribers.

“The Megasite Authority has tremendous powers given to it under the legislation,” said Michael Banks, a Brownsville-based attorney. “We’ve got to make sure the Authority gets the deal done for Ford. But we’ve got to keep in mind the impact that any decisions the Megasite Authority makes they’re gonna have on the town of Stanton, Haywood County and Brownsville and for that matter, smaller municipalities in Tipton and Fayette County as well.”

Eleven members total will govern the Megasite Authority of West Tennessee, up from the seven proposed originally.

Within those 20 years, the event has raised more than $100 million for St. Jude, Corinne Kennedy reports. It is the organization's largest single-day fundraiser.

Memphian touches ‘number of lives’ with 502 blood donations

Memphis resident Shaun Brennan sat in the donor chair 502 times, donating whole blood, platelets and plasma, our Katherine Burgess writes in her story for subscribers.

Brennan is just one of 3% of eligible blood donors who donate annually in the United States.

It’s his passion, and he advocates for others to consider donating.

“It’s a national and it’s a global crisis right now,” Brennan said. “It’s amazing how rewarding this endeavor has been, when I think of all the lives who I’ve touched.”

We’re expanding our coverage to Frayser

Recently The Commercial Appeal expanded its coverage in Memphis’ Whitehaven area to better cover a city neighborhood we've long under-covered. We are now looking toward Frayser, our executive editor Mark Russell writes in his latest column.

Here’s more of what he says about our coverage and focus:

The Whitehaven work led to The CA greatly improving its coverage and providing a pipeline for neighborhood leaders and residents to send us story ideas.

Now we are turning to Frayser, an equally historic community with a legacy of community involvement and activism. We want to reflect the issues that are driving Frayser, from housing development to education.

Although the 180-year-old CA was once called the newspaper you could trust in the Mid-South, we have too often failed to cover the full spectrum of life in predominantly Black communities.

And, as an institution, we lacked credibility in those areas. The coverage in those areas lacked the texture and fullness of the coverage of East Memphis, Germantown, Collierville or Bartlett.

With this Frayser coverage push, we are continuing that transformation in our focus.

With Ja Morant sidelined, Grizzlies win over Kings

As Ja Morant was sidelined by a sprained Knee, the Grizzlies played more uptempo, getting on fastbreaks, our Evan Barnes reports.

The mood was lighter than expected with Morant out, yet the team kept things fast and loose — acquiring its 128-101 win over the Sacramento Kings at FedExForum.

The Grizzlies face the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. It'll be their first trip to Canada since January 2019.
