Good morning, Memphis, where 20 years ago chef and restaurateur Karen Carrier transformed the historic beauty shop where Priscilla Presley used to get her hair done into one of Memphis’ most popular dining spots.

But, first, after the American Civil Liberties Union and Shelby County advocacy groups threatened to sue the county for its bail and pretrial detention practices, the county government plans to create a bail hearing room for arrestees, our Katherine Burgess reports in her story for subscribers.

The Shelby County Commission will first consider in a committee meeting this week whether to fund expenses and additional personnel to establish that room.

If the resolution is passed by the commission, the judges of General Sessions Criminal Court will then have to approve a standing bail order. Then, the county will have six months to ramp up the new bail hearing room and practices.
