The 89 Issues of Car and Driver with a Corvette on the Cover

It's a bit of a running joke within our office that we put the Chevrolet Corvette on more of our magazine covers than any other car. We wouldn't know for sure—we don't have a running count of every car's all-time appearances on our monthly magazine's covers—but the Corvette has been on our cover 89 times since we sprung into being in 1955, when we were known as Sports Cars Illustrated before we switched to the name Car and Driver in April 1961.

That is a ton of appearances by one vehicle on our cover, although we'll admit that the Vette wasn't the sole "cover car" in all 89 of those. In some cases, the Corvette was one of several vehicles on the cover. Also, we've only included visual appearances of any kind here—there are many more covers on which the Corvette is mentioned in a callout but not pictured. What can we say? The car sells magazines.
