911 call leads to rescue of 8 children kidnapped from Arkansas to California, cops say
Eight children taken from foster homes in Arkansas were recovered more than 2,000 miles away when police did a welfare check in the parking lot of a California restaurant, according to the authorities.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, outside of El Delicioso Burrito in Anderson, California, about 150 miles north of Sacramento.
“A concerned citizen contacted ... dispatch requesting a welfare check on a group of six children and the woman they were with, due to the woman displaying bizarre behavior,” police said in a news release.
“A records check revealed (the woman) to have a felony warrant for her arrest for the abduction of eight children. Officers learned that (she) was the biological mother of all of the children, however had lost her custodial rights and had abducted the children from their foster placements.”
The 36-year-old woman of Rogers, Arkansas was arrested and revealed the location of two other children at a home in Cottonwood, 4 miles south of Anderson, police said.
They were recovered and all eight siblings “were released to Shasta County Children and Family Services for reunification with their guardians in Arkansas,” police said.
Investigators say “protective custody warrants” had been issued for the safety of the children after their abduction.
The woman is being held without bond in California on a fugitive from justice warrant, jail records show.
