93-year-old woman killed, 2 others injured in shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — This week’s frigid weather is not slowing down gun violence in Memphis. One of the city’s latest victims is a 93-year-old woman and two other family members.

In the Glenview community, a shooting on Kendale Avenue near Kyle serves as yet another reminder of how gun violence continues to destroy lives.

1 dead, 2 injured after shooting in South Memphis

A Memphis family is now grieving after three women were shot Wednesday night. But what makes this even more disturbing, 93-year-old Geraldine Harris is one of the victims.

Many neighbors didn’t want to talk, but Memphis Representative Antonio Parkinson called Harris’ death another senseless killing.

“She had nothing to do with that and the fact that here one of our matriarchs in the community has lost her life because of some nonsense that’s going on probably with younger people,” said Parkinson.

When MPD got to the home on Kendale, they said Harris had already died. Another adult was taken to Regional One in critical condition and a teen was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a disagreement between the victims and two men.

Right now, the search is on for the two suspected gunmen. The known suspects reportedly fled the scene.

A call to action is heard yet again as a family and community grieve the death of Geraldine Harris.

“The matriarch, the babies that have been losing their lives in Memphis or any other individual. Any is too many, and something has to be done. We have to really, really truly approach this thing from every aspect from incarceration to intervention to prevention,” said Parkinson.
