954 Total Coronavirus Cases In Ocean County As Test Center Opens

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — The Ocean County Health Department reported 119 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the county total to 954 as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Testing Center Opens

County officials opened a drive-thru testing site Monday at Ocean County College. On the first day, 166 people got tested, including 40 health-care workers and first responders.

The total of positive cases doesn't include people tested Monday.

Residents must schedule appointments before arriving. The site is booked for Tuesday but has openings Wednesday through Friday this week.

“We do not want anyone to show up at this testing site without following the requirements we have put in place,” said OCHD Public Health Coordinator Daniel Regenye. “We are not going to do any health screenings at the site. It is just for testing for the virus.”

Residents must meet the following requirements before testing:

  • You must be an Ocean County resident and have identification.

  • You must have a physician’s prescription

  • You must make an online appointment at www.ochd.org.

  • You must be symptomatic.

  • You should enter the Ocean County College campus from the Hooper Avenue entrance.

Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJ Barnabas Healthcare System assisted in staffing the testing site. Both health networks have telemedicine opportunities to help county residents get the required physician script before attending the testing center:

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue, a dry cough and shortness of breath.
