New 992-Generation 2020 Porsche 911 Debuts in November, Goes on Sale Next Summer
The lead-up to the new 992 generation of the Porsche 911 has been long, but the wait is about to pay off. At our recent firsthand experience with a prototype of the new sports car, we learned that the production model will officially make its debut next month. Porsche also shared the launch cadence for the 911 lineup. In the United States, it will begin in summer 2019, when the first models arrive in dealerships as 2020 models.
The Los Angeles auto show at the end of November marks the new 2020 911's public debut. Although we've already seen nearly undisguised prototypes of the car and know a lot of information about it, this occasion should provide even more official details. Pricing, which may be revealed at that time, is expected to start somewhere between $90,000 and $100,000.
After the debut, the first 992-generation 911 models to go on sale in the States next summer will be the 450-hp 911 Carrera S and 4S coupe versions of the car equipped with the optional eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Carrera S and 4S cabriolet variants will follow shortly thereafter. Next up, following by a few months, will be the 385-hp Carrera and Carrera 4 iterations with both the seven-speed manual and the PDK. Manual-transmission Carrera S models will arrive around the same time as the base models. The new 992 Turbo is expected to be available by the end of 2019, although we don't know many details on the model at this point.
Porsche being Porsche, things won't stop there, and countless other versions of the 992-generation 911 are sure to appear further in the future, including Targa, GTS, and GT3 models. Some sort of electrified 911, likely a plug-in hybrid, will arrive at some point, too, possibly when the 992 model gets updated in a few years and becomes the 992.2.
