Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse seems to be teasing some big real-life events coming this month related to the highly-anticipated release of version 4.0 and the game’s fifth nation, Fontaine, in some cryptic posts.

Genshin Impact’s official social media accounts posted cryptic messages on Thursday (3 August) that at first glance contained nothing but gibberish, being a random mishmash of letters that had some fans thinking the accounts were hacked or had erroneously posted.

However, some eagle-eyed fans were able to realise that the posts were actually cyphers which, when when decoded, read “eightonenine PARIS NYC TOKYO TAIPEI”.

From this, fans were able to surmise that HoYoverse may be hosting some real-life events in Paris, New York City, Tokyo, and Taipei on 19 August.

Since Genshin Impact version 4.0 and Fontaine are expected to be released on 16 August, fans are assuming that the four aforementioned cities will be hosting real-life events that will either be related to or promoting the release of Fontaine.

It's also worth noting that Fontaine is largely based on Victorian-era France and that one of the cities hosting the possible event will be none other than Paris.

HoYoverse has yet to confirm these assumptions, although the official announcement for these events are expected to happen in the upcoming version 4.0 preview livestream on Friday (4 August).

Genshin Impact is currently in version 3.8, which features a new summer event as well as reruns for Eula, Klee, the Wanderer, and Kokomi.

The highly-anticipated release of Fontaine in Genshin Impact version 4.0 is expected to be on 16 August. The first batch of playable characters from the region include the sibling trio of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet.

But more than just adding a new region, version 4.0 will also add a new dimension to Genshin Impact's gameplay by introducing underwater exploration and combat! Much-awaited updates to the game's various mechanics are also included in the new version, including new Battle Pass Weapons and expansions to the Artifact Strongbox.

Assuming that the posts do indeed tease upcoming real-life events, it will be yet another opportunity for Genshin Impact fans to enjoy real-life events related to the game in the coming months.

Genshin Impact will be headlining the official HoYoverse booth in the upcoming gamescom 2023 festival, which will be hosted in Cologne, Germany from 23 to 27 August. Aside from Genshin Impact, other HoYoverse games like Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, and the upcoming title Zenless Zone Zero will have their own gamescom booths.

There’s also this year’s HoYoFest, the official annual and worldwide celebration for fans of HoYoverse games. In Southeast Asia, HoYoFest will be hosted in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand from August to November.

Unlike last year's HoYoFest, which consisted of separate cafe and restaurant collaborations for each of the developer’s featured games, HoYoFest 2023 will be bigger and grander as all HoYo titles will be coming together for the first time in one mega celebration.

This year’s HoYoFest will feature celebrations for Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, Zenless Zone Zero, and Tears of Themis.
