AAA is warning drivers to watch out for slick spots on the road during their Monday morning commute.

Grassy and elevated surfaces will be the first to ice over, according to the spokesperson with AAA.
With the recent drop in temperature, AAA is urging drivers to carry a winter weather kit in their car, the spokesperson said. The kit should include items such as a car phone charger, ice scraper, blanket, winter clothing, flashlight and extra batteries, jumper cables, bag of kitty litter, reflective triangles and flares, a shovel and towels.

When driving in these severe weather, adjust your speed to the road conditions, the spokesperson said. Do not tailgate other cars, there should be a minimum of eight to ten seconds between you and the car in front of you when driving on slippery surfaces.
Use extreme caution when driving on bridges or overpasses, the spokesperson said.
It is crucial to pay attention to the traffic ahead of you and to slow down as soon as you see brake lights, fishtailing cars, sideway skids or emergency flasher lights, the spokesperson said. Avoid using cruise control on slippery roads.

If you see law enforcement, snow removal crews, or emergency roadside personnel, move over one lane to leave space for them to work, the spokesperson said.
