Penn State showed why it’s the No. 1-ranked NCAA wrestling team in the country on Friday night in Iowa City, Iowa.

In the biggest dual meet of the college season, on national TV, the Nittany Lions defeated No. 2 Iowa 19-13 in front of a packed, boisterous crowd at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, snapping the Hawkeyes’ 29-match win streak.

Penn State (14-0, 6-0 Big Ten) came out on top in six of the 10 weight classes, including a win by decision at 184 pounds by junior Aaron Brooks, a 2018 North Hagerstown graduate.

Brooks, ranked No. 1 in the country at 184, scored three takedowns in an 8-3 victory over No. 17 Abe Assad to give the Nittany Lions a 16-10 lead with two bouts left.

Brooks, the reigning NCAA national champion at 184, improved to 12-0 for the season and 41-1 for his college career as he extended his win streak to 34 straight bouts.

Penn State has won eight of the last 10 NCAA team titles. At last year’s national tournament, the Nittany Lions finished second to Iowa.

The Hawkeyes (11-1, 5-1), who had the longest active win streak in the country, hadn’t lost a dual meet at home in over four years.
