It’s not every day that young athletes in Pittsburgh get to meet a reigning Super Bowl champion, let alone learn from one. But on Saturday, 250 youth football players got to take the field, and get some work in with former Pitt Football sensation Aaron Donald.

“It’s super special to be able to come back home and do camp for the kids,” Donald told Channel 11. “I think it’s big just to be around for them, and be able to talk to them a little bit, motivate them and teach them something.”

It’s safe to say that players of all ages were soaking in all the knowledge they could from the Penn Hills native, and current Los Angeles Rams star. The free skills camp, put on through Donald’s AD99 Solutions Foundation, had him reminiscing about when he was in their shoes.

“It’s a good feeling because I remember being their age one time,” said Donald. “To be at this position I’m in right now, I know a lot of these kids are looking up to me. I think that’s super special.”

It’s always special when Donald returns home. It makes it even more meaningful when he’s able to give back to the community he grew up in. He continues to support the Steel City on and off the field, and continues to feel the love, even from Steelers fans.

“I feel like obviously, Pittsburgh Steelers fans are here, but I feel like I got a lot of support here,” said Donald. “I think when I came home after winning the Super Bowl, I got a lot of love when I came back home, so it feels good. This is my home. This is where I was born and raised in the city where I love. Every year I come back home so I’m able to get the support I do here, it’s special.

In case you’re wondering, it still hasn’t quite hit Donald that he’s a Super Bowl champion.

“It’s still sinking in,” said Donald. “I’m trying to do everything I can to repeat that all over again. It was one heck of an experience, but I’m trying to do everything I can to try and experience it again.”
