Aaron Jones makes pitch for Aaron Rodgers to return to the Packers: 'Do the right thing and come home'

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones (33) and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) walk of the after their game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

Who will win the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes as we apparently enter the fourth quarter of Aaron Rodgers Watch 2023?

Not only is New York Jets management seriously looking to entice Rodgers to play for their franchise by reportedly having several of their brass, including owner Woody Johnson, fly out to his Malibu, California, home, but now players are doing their best to get in on the courtship of the four-time MVP.

Here's some of the latest from the last two days involving Jets and Packers players.

Sauce Gardner says he'd burn 'cheesehead' if Aaron Rodgers is traded to the New York Jets

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner, who won AFC defensive rookie of the year in 2022, tweeted at Rodgers on Tuesday.

"Aye Aaron Rodgers, I promise if you become a Jet, I won’t pick you off in practice & I’ll burn the cheesehead,” Gardner wrote.

Gardner, of course, famously wore a cheesehead last season at Lambeau Field after the Jets trounced the Packers, 27-10, in Week 6. The loss was the second of five straight for the Packers in a season that ended with them missing the playoffs for the first time in four years.

Rodgers hasn't tweeted anything in more than a month — prior to his four-day darkness retreat — so we don't even know if he'll see Gardner's tweet or the noise around him. After all, Rodgers went on the retreat to block it all out.

But Jets players aren't the only ones getting in their pitches.

Aaron Jones goes on 'Good Morning Football' to make his case to Aaron Rodgers to stay with the Packers

Aaron Jones, who also touted Jordan Love's readiness to take over the reins during Super Bowl week last month, appeared on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" show Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, when Jones was asked what team he would want Rodgers to go to if he doesn't return to the Packers, he said he would be OK with the Jets.

"I'm salty," Jones said. "I don't want him to go to Vegas so I would say he could come here (New York). But he's my quarterback. It would be good to see him reunite with (Nathaniel) Hackett (former Packers offensive coordinator and new Jets OC), somebody he knows. But like I said, Aaron Rodgers, please don't go anywhere."

On Wednesday, Jones upped his game.

"I'm on national TV making my case," Jones said. "Other guys are on social media, I'm on national TV. Come back to the Packers, we got everything we need. We're right there, we didn't start off the way we wanted to last year, but we picked it up. You're a huge part of that. Our leader. We got it going. We lost the last game to get into the playoffs. We got everything we need. Let's bring one back to Green Bay."

And then in a segment where the panelists were asked to describe the New York movie they'd use to describe Rodgers becoming a Jet, Jones wrote “Do The Right Thing!”

"You know where home is," Jones said. "You’ve been there for so long. You’re a leader of our team. We’d love to have you back. Just do the right thing and come home."

Jets tight end CJ Uzomah doesn't want to add to the Aaron Rodgers speculation during 'Good Morning Football' appearance

Jets tight end CJ Uzomah also appeared on the show via video. Jones was still there and asked him a question about the potential of young running back Breece Hall.

After that, host Kyle Brandt tried to get Uzomah to join in on the Rodgers talk. But Uzomah wasn't taking the bait.

"Can you imagine how much room those (running backs) are going to have to run when Rodgers is throwing deep at MetLife Stadium?" Brandt said.

"AJ’s my guy," Uzomah said. "I’m going to let him have it."

What has Aaron Rodgers said following his darkness retreat?

We'll see shortly if the Packers, Jets or someone else gets Rodgers for 2023.

Rodgers recently went on "The Aubrey Marcus Podcast" and said he would make a decision about his football future "soon enough and we’ll go down that road."

Rodgers is not a free agent but has remained uncommitted about his football future and the Packers have reportedly allowed the Jets to talk to Rodgers. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said last week "all options are on the table" for the 39-year-old quarterback.
