Abandoned items at Aberdeen Regional Airport declared surplus property

A host of abandoned property at the Aberdeen Regional Airport has been declared surplus, allowing the city to sell or use the it.

The Aberdeen City Council declared the property surplus at Monday's meeting. The property includes chemical jugs, a 1,000-gallon fuel tank, a 20,000-gallon fuel tank, a 500-gallon propane tank, a 55-gallon oil drum, computer equipment, light fixtures, a pressure washer and a fork lift.

City Attorney Ron Wager said extensive efforts have been made to contact the former aerial spraying company as well as the company's attorneys, but, while one person gathered his personal property, none of the company equipment has been removed.

Wager said there are a couple items the city might have a use for, but at this point, the equipment, which belonged to AirKraft Spraying, Inc., has to go.

Should the business wish to claim its property, outstanding rent and storage fees of $12,176 must be paid, he said.

In other action, the council, approved two resolutions to vacate public right of way. the first is for unused public right of way at the south end of the Lee Park Golf Course parking lot so it can be combined with another piece of property for future development.

The second vacates the alley east of the Glenna and Rodney Fouberg Youth Development Center for future expansion of the playground and parking areas.
