From an ABBA Tribue to the first crawfish boil, here's what's happening in Shreveport

With Mardi Gras officially over, the Shreveport-Bossier communities will need to find new events to fill up their weekend calendars. Whether you're looking to catch a movie, see an ABBA tribute in concert or get a jump on crawfish season, here's what's happening in Shreveport and Bossier City this weekend.

Friday, February 24

  • Black History Month Film Spotlight: SELMA at The Robinson Film Center - Southern University Shreveport and RFC are teaming up to host a special screening of the 2014 historical drama film that chronicles Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1975. The film will begin screening at 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the RFC website.

  • Lip Service Drag Night Hosted by ZaZa Gigante at Bears - Come out for a fun night filled with incredible performances by local queens Su DeNim, Estara Knowles Katz, Gemini Alexander Brooks and Prada Cayne Milan all hosted by ZaZa Gigante. This is an age 21 and up only event and will start at 11 p.m. at Bears located at 1401 Fairfield Ave. in Shreveport.

  • The Three Little Pigs at Bossier Parish Community College - Bring the kids out for the final weekend of the BPCC Children's Show all about the classic story of The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the BPCC Theatre Box Office website. The show begins at 7 p.m. and additional shows will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. at 6220 E. Texas St. in Bossier City.

Saturday, February 25

  • First Crawfish Boil of 2023 at Great Raft Brewery - The end of Mardi Gras signals the beginning of crawfish season and Great Raft is partnering with The Crabby Crawfish for a day full of great beer and food. This is an all-ages free event from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 1251 Dalzell St. in Shreveport.

  • East Bank Mardi Gras Market at the East Bank District & Plaza - Wrap up the end of Mardi Gras at the East Bank District with live music, local vendors, food trucks and more. This is an all ages, free event that will be from 4 - 8 p.m. in Bossier City.

  • Uplifting Black Artists at The Agora Borealis - Come by for the final Saturday showcase of this special event hosted by The Agora Borealis. Black artists Sebastian Williams, Eric Francis and Jerrick Thomas will have their art on display from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at 421 Lake St. in Shreveport.

  • Cinderella Stories & Anansi Tales Children's Theatre at Central Artstation - The Lumpy Grits Artistry is celebrating their 10th birthday season with a show for all ages. LGA's Youth Theatre Troupe will bring African Cinderella Stories and Anansi Tales to Shreveport-Bossier at 1 and 6 p.m. at 801 Crockett St. in Shreveport. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at the event.

Sunday, February 26

  • Soup's On! Competition at Marilynn's Place - Slow Food North Louisiana is teaming up with Marilynn's Place for a friendly soup cook-off open to amateurs and professionals alike. Visit the Slow Food North LA website to register to compete or purchase tickets to attend. The event will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. at Marilynn's Place at 4041 Fern Ave. in Shreveport.

  • Mania: The ABBA Tribute at The Strand Theatre - Mania: The ABBA Tribute has been entertaining audiences with the music of the hit musical group since 1999. Visit The Strand Theatre website to purchase tickets. The show begins at 8 p.m. at 619 Louisiana Ave. in Shreveport.
