Abby Mann's arm and bat leads Lady Bobcats past St. Clairsville

Cambridge High School offense was cranked into high gear on Monday in Buckeye 8 softball action with visiting St. Clairsville at Cambridge City Park.

The Lady Bobcats banged out 18 hits en route to a lopsided 19-3 victory in five innings of play.

Cambridge (4-5) jumped out to a commanding 12-0 lead with a five run first inning, followed by a seven run second inning explosion.

Junior Abby Mann had a big night, working five innings with nine Ks and a pair of walks to earn the pitching victory. Mann then aided her own cause with a home run, double and four RBIs to pace the CHS offense.

Freshman Miranda Cole turned in a 3-for-4 effort, with three singles and two RBIs, while Bailey Kenworthy finished with a double and two singles. Janiya Conrad banged out a double, two singles with three RBIs for the winners.

Kenzi Hickman also racked up three singles, with a pair of RBIs and Elaina Hines chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.

NEXT − Cambridge will play host to Union Local on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Meadowbrook 4, Crooksville 2

BYESVILLE −Meadowbrook High posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to collect a 4-2 Muskingum Valley League softball victory over visiting Crooksville on Monday evening.

Deadlocked at 2-2, the Lady Colts rallied for the win with Hailey Fordyce picking up a key RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Addy Sichina turned in a complete game effort to earn the pitching win for Meadowbrook (4-2, 4-2 MVL), allowing just two runs on one hit with 10 Ks and five walks.

Sichina and Sommer Ginn each had a double and single to lead the Lady Colts' seven-hit attack. Addy Randles also doubled, with Taylor Sichina contributing an RBI single for the winners.

NEXT −Meadowbrook travels to Tri-Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

John Glenn 3, Philo 0

DUNCAN FALLS − John Glenn junior Sydney Marshall struck out 12 in a two-hitter for the visiting Lady Muskies (7-1, 5-1), who broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning to stay atop the MVL-Big School Division.

Senior Ryann Snider scored the game's first run when Hannah Bendle's fly ball to center field was misplayed after reaching with a one-out single. Bendle came in to score after an error on Adi Babcock's bunt.

JG juniorAlivia Boothe singled in a run in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Kyleigh McGraw went the distance to take the loss for Philo (8-3, 5-2), which committed four errors.

NEXT − John Glenn will play host to Dover on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

BASEBALL

Meadowbrook 6, Crooksville 3

BYESVILLE − Host Meadowbrook High took an early lead over Crooksville and held on for a 6-3 Muskingum Valley League baseball victory on Monday afternoon.

Senior Easton Eibel delivered an RBI groundout in the first inning for a quick 1-0 Colts' lead. In the second frame, Zayden Yeagle and Kade Winnett each stroked RBI doubles to push the Meadowbrook lead to 3-1.

Cohen Miles smacked an RBI base hit in the fourth to extend the Colts' lead out to 4-1.

Jacob Justice made that lead hold up with a complete game outing to pick up the win on the mound. Justice allowed five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking just one.

Chapman lasted three and two-thirds innings and took the loss for the visiting Ceramics, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one.

Meadowbrook (3-5) collected seven hits in the contest, with Yeagle finishing with a double, single and RBI. Tye Griffith added a pair of singles with an RBI.

NEXT − Meadowbrook travels to Shenandoah on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Buckeye Trail 10, Shenandoah 1

OLD WASHINGTON − Buckeye Trail improved to a sparkling 7-1 record on Monday, with a 10-1 non-league victory over visiting Shenandoah High.

Cannon Clum picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits with four Ks and one walk in a four inning outing.

Tyler Harrell swung the big bat for Buckeye Trail with a single and double with three RBIs, while Braden Williams singled twice with a pair of runs scored. Clum doubled with an RBI, and Isaac Beaver, Mason McQuain, and Nick Neuhart each added RBI base hits for Trail.

NEXT −Buckeye Trail returns to IVC action on Thursday when they host Conotton Valley at 5 p.m.

Cambridge 3, St. Clairsville 1

Cambridge senior Jake Valentine was in charge during Monday's Buckeye 8 matchup with state ranked St. Clairsville at Don Coss Stadium.

Valentine picked up the win on the mound in the 3-1 victory, and then turned in a 3-for-4 effort at the plate with three singles to lead the Bobcats.

“Jake pitched a great game and our defense was phenomenal behind him,” Cambridge coach Jamaal Lowery said. “We executed enough offensively to get our runs.”

“I couldn’t be more proud of my guys,” Lowery added. “Beating the number six team in the state and to hand them their first lost, as well, I’ll take that.”

Valentine allowed just one run on five hits with five Ks and three walks to earn the pitching win.

Senior Andy Ogle chipped in with single and pair of RBIs, with senior Caden Moore also picking up an RBI for the winners. Senior Davion Bahr, Keaton Kyser and Regan Rogers each added base hits.

With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 5-2 on the season.

NEXT − Cambridge will host Union Local on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Philo 7, John Glenn 6

DUNCAN FALLS — Host Philo rallies to slip past John Glenn for a 7-6 victory in a back-and-forth Muskingum Valley League baseball matchup on Monday.

Jake Howell drove in Talon Preston with the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single to secure the team's fourth win in five games.

Down 6-5, Cade Searls scored from first on Preston's one-out double to center field to tie the game. Preston was at third with one out when Griffin Wells followed with a pop out, but Howell's clutch hit off Muskie reliever Jacob Stambush ended it.

It capped a wild game that saw Philo come back from a 5-3 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, then fall behind again after John Glenn's Ayden Thompson singled home Noah Winland with two outs in the ninth.

Case Fink had a double and two singles, Searls two singles and Howell two singles with two RBIs as Philo (4-5, 3-4 MVL-Big) had 10 hits and drew five walks.

Clayton Peterson pitched three innings of relief to get the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts. Starter Seth Vousden pitched the first six innings.

Winland had two singles and Adam Johnson a single with two RBIs for John Glenn (3-4, 3-3), which had seven hits — all were singles. Colt Emerson, who drew three walks, stole four bases.

Starter Bexlee Woodard allowed three earned runs in six innings with four walks and three strikeouts.

NEXT − John Glenn will host Indian Valley on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
