ABC Pro Rodeo performances start Thursday at Levelland's Mallet Center

The 80th edition of the ABC Pro Rodeo begins Thursday in Levelland with its usual schedule of four performances.

The start times at the Mallet Event Center and Arena are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Thursday's card includes past National Finals Rodeo qualifiers Bill Tutor in bareback riding, Brody Cress in saddle bronc riding, Reese Riemer and Bradley Bynum in tiedown roping, Jana Bean and Tiany Schuster in barrel racing and Scottie Knapp in bull riding. Also entered again is Wyatt Muggli, last year's all-around champion.

Cress has qualified for the NFR each of the past six years and won the NFR average titles in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Lubbock Christian University's Kasey Flores was named the Division II national player of the week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, and Lady Chaps righthander Taylor Franco was named the Lone Star Conference pitcher of the week.

Flores, a senior third baseman from El Paso Eastlake, helped the 11th-ranked Lady Chaps go 6-0 last week with five home runs and 11 runs batted in. Franco, a senior from Monahans, appeared in four games last week. She pitched 21 innings, limiting opponents to three runs on 12 hits and striking out 24.

LCU (30-8, 20-7) takes an 11-game win streak into a Lone Star Conference series this weekend at Texas A&M International. The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader at noon Friday and a game at 11 a.m. Saturday in Laredo.

TEMECULA, Calif. — Lily Griffin finished fifth individually, leading Lubbock Christian University to a fourth-place finish out of 11 teams in the San Marcos Shootout that concluded Tuesday at Temecula Creek Inn.

Griffin shot 75-76 for 7 over par in the 36-hole event. He top-five finish is her season best, and the 151 is her season-best score for a two-round event.

LCU's Alexandra Escamilla (81-75) tied for 15th, and Kyra Schmuhl (77-83) tied for 29th. Rounding out the Lady Chaps' lineup were Prestley Hammond (81-83) and Aspen Escamilla (87-89).

The tournament was the regular-season finale for LCU. Next for the Lady Chaps is the Lone Star Conference tournament April 23-26 at Winstar Golf Club in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
