ABCD celebrates its 48th annual meeting with awards

CANTON – ABCD conducted its 48th annual meeting recently at the DoubleTree Hotel under the theme Ready-Set-Grow.

The following award recipients were recognized for their work in the community, according to a news release:

Dennis Saunier, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Outstanding Community Service.

Rodney Dennis, Levels Barber School, Outstanding Minority Business.

Leila Green, Alliance of Black School Educators, Outstanding Longevity of Service.

Monsignor Lew Gaetano, Christ the Servant, Outstanding Lifetime Achievement.

Others recognized were:

Judge Taryn Heath, 17 years of service.

Councilwoman Chris Smith, 17 years of service.

Ron Young, 30 years of service.

Jenny Terrell, 35 years of service.

John Cihon received the Outstanding Board Member Award, and Kathy Mitchell received the Outstanding Staff Member Award, with Eddie Collier receiving the Outstanding Driver Award.

Kevin Boyce, Franklin County commissioner and founder of the Adelphi Organization, which will become the first Black-owned bank in Ohio, was the keynote speaker.

The general chairman was John Cihon, and Lydia Lee is chairperson of ABCD’s Board of Directors, and Will Dent is its president and CEO.
