Report: Ex-UFC fighter Abel Trujillo charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child

Former UFC lightweight Abel Trujillo has been charged felony sexual exploitation of a child and felony obscenity in Colorado, according to TSN.

The 35-year-old’s bond has been set at $10,000, according to the Douglas County Court Deputy inmate database.

Per the report, Trujillo was arrested on May 24 in Broward County, Florida, and extradited to Douglas County in mid-June. He will reportedly face a preliminary court hearing on Thursday at Douglas County Courthouse.

Colorado defines sexual exploitation of a child as “possessing, producing or distributing sexually explicit material (pornography) involving a child under 18," according to court documents obtained by TSN. Trujillo’s specific charge is also reportedly described as someone who "possesses or controls any sexually exploitative material for any purpose."

The felony obscenity charge was reportedly defined as “a person commits wholesale promotion of obscenity to a minor if, knowing its content and character, such person wholesale promotes to a minor or possesses with intent to wholesale promote to a minor any obscene material.”

Details of the incident that landed Trujillo in jail are not available for public release due to the nature of the charge, according to TSN.

Trujillo reportedly faces a prison sentence of 12 to 18 months and a fine of $1,000 to $100,000 on each charge, which are specified as Class 6 felonies in Colorado.

Trujillo spent 5 years with UFC

Trujillo’s last official fight was back in 2017, when he lost to John Makdessi at a UFC Fight Night in Winnipeg, Canada. Among his past UFC opponents are lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and No. 2 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson.

He was reportedly scheduled to fight in the main event of an event called Battlefield FC 2 in Macau on July 27, but has since been replaced.

Trujillo has a prior history of domestic violence, which includes convictions on domestic abuse charges in 2007 and 2009.
