Aberdeen Central, Deuel-Deubrook Area wrestlers capture tourney titles

HURON — Aberdeen Central crowned four championships and placed 13 other wrestlers on the way to winning the team title in the seven-team Huron Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles edged Winner 258.5-256.5 for the title.

Rayden Zens (126 pounds), Ayden Gisi (170), Samson Flakus (195) and Bryce Beitelspacher (220) each won titles for Aberdeen Central. Zens and Flakus each were 3-0 and Gisi and Beitelspacher each 2-0. Zens is now 37-4 on the season.

Will Allen (106), Ridley Waldo (120), Tate Huff (132), Mason Schrempp (145) and Jacob Krenz (285) each placed second; Porter Lozenski (113) third; Jacob Bellefeuille (138) and Cole Dunlavy (182) each fourth; and Brady Aesoph (138) fifth.

The Golden Eagles compete in the Region 3A tournament on Saturday in Mission.

Northeast Conference Tourney

WEBSTER — Deuel-Deubrook Area edged Redfield 125.5-125 to win the Northeast Conference tournament on Saturday.

Clark-Willow Lake was third at 116, followed by Hamlin-Castlewood (100), Milbank (96.5), Sisseton (87), Groton Area (64), Webster Area (51) and Britton-Hecla (30).

DDA had seven place winners including individual champions Gavin Kloos at 126, Korbin Whiteley at 160 and Justin Granum at 195. Kloos and Whiteley were each 3-0 and Granum 2-0.

Redfield had eight place winners including champions Brady Risetter (106), Mason Whitley (152), Chase McGillivary (220) and Grady Fey (285). Whitley went 4-0, Risetter and Fey each 2-0 and McGillivary 1-0. Risetter is 30-0 and Fey 35-1 on the season.

Other individual champions include Rylan Yonker of Hamlin-Castlewood (113, 2-0); Austin Vig of Clark-Willow Lake (120, 2-0); Holden Hawkins of Sisseton (132, 2-0); Christian Ehresmann of Groton Area (138, 3-0); Brayden Christensen of Milbank (145, 3-0); Barrett Schneck of Milbank (170, 1-0) and Mason Shultz of Sisseton (182, 2-0).

Clark-Willow Lake, Hamlin-Castlewood and Milbank also had seven place winners, Sisseton five and Groton Area, Webster Area and Britton-Hecla each four.

Harrisburg Girls Invite

HARRISBURG — Aberdeen Central took fifth and Watertown ninth out of 39 teams in the Harrisburg Girls Invitational on Saturday.

Pierre won with 158 points. Aberdeen Central had three placers and scored 78 points. Watertown had four place winners and scored 57.

Katrina Gibson went 4-0 and won the 154-pound title. She is 31-8 on the season. Madyson Gillen was third at 113 and Autumn Gauer fourth at 185.

Hope Orr (285) took second to lead Watertown. Allison Konrad was fourth at 190, Olivia Anderson sixth at 106 and Katelyn Yexley sixth at 132.

Hollie Frost of Groton Area went 2-0 and won the 142-152 Class B division. Wrestlers from Britton-Hecla, Doland and Hamlin-Castlewood also competed.

Kingsbury County Quad

ARLINGTON — Host Kingsbury County went 3-0 in a high school wrestling quadrangular on Friday, beating Flandreau 57-9, Garretson 61-10 and Tri-Valley 36-34.

Cody Zell (113 pounds), Greyson Nielson (120), Gannon Gilligan (126), Deion Harris (182) and Connor Johnson (195) each went 3-0 for the Knights.

McCook Central-Montrose Duals

SALEM — Clark-Willow Lake went 3-1 and Faulkton Area and Warner-Northwestern each 2-2 in the McCook Central-Montrose Duals on Friday.

Clark-Willow Lake lost to Canton 68-12 and downed Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda 48-8, Marion-Freeman 31-25 and Warner-Northwestern 42-32. Faulkton Area topped Marion-Freeman 46-30 and Viborg-Hurley 60-0 and lost to Canton 78-0 and McCook Central-Montrose 53-21. Warner-Northwestern also defeated VH/IW 36-18 and Marion-Freeman 42-36 and lost to Canton 75-6.

Elliot Bratland (152-160 pounds) went 4-0 for Clark-Willow Lake and Alex Pudwill (170) did the same for WNW.
