Aberdeen man admits to vehicular homicide from 2019 ATV crash

An Aberdeen man has admitted his role in a 2019 ATV crash where another person died.

Dustin Stieha, 37, of Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to one charge of felony vehicular homicide Wednesday. Sentencing will be at a later date.

Stieha was the driver of a 2014 Polaris side-by-side ATV on Sept. 15. Nicholas Fettig, 37, was the passenger. He was thrown from the ATV and died from his injuries.

The plea was entered as part of a plea agreement where a second charge of driving under the influence was dismissed.

According to the plea agreement, sentencing will be held following the completion of a chemical dependency evaluation. Vehicular homicide carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. According to the plea agreement the prosecution and the immediate family of the victim will not oppose a request for a suspended imposition of his sentence.
