Aberdeen pulls away for 6-3 boys hockey win over Watertown

The Aberdeen Cougars scored three unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes to record a 6-3 varsity boys win over the Watertown Lakers in a South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association game Tuesday night in Watertown's Maas Ice Arena.

Aberdeen (now 3-5-1 in the SDAHA) and Watertown (3-6 overall and 3-3 in the SDAHA) battled evenly for much of Tuesday's game. The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and Watertown erased a 3-2 deficit after two periods by getting a game-tying goal from Jake Bramer just over a minute into the third period.

The Cougars took over from there and used goals from even-strength goals by Lance Siefken and Brady Huff and a power-play goal from Jaxon Danielson to nail down the victory.

The big star of the game for Aberdeen was Devon Fischbach, who scored the team's first three goals and also addedd an assist. Huff contributed two assists and Siefken, Danielson, Kayden Wika and Leyton Kieffman each one.

Goalkeeper Colton Townsend finished with 13 saves for the Cougars, who outshot Watertown 20-16.

Bramer scored two goals and Mylan Evans one for Watertown. Evans and Tommy Foley each recorded two assists and Austin McBride one.

Watertown goalie Caleb Schmaltz finished with 14 saves.

Both teams are off until Dec. 30-31. Watertown visits Sioux Falls I on Friday, Dec. 30 at 8:15 p.m. and returns home the following day to host Sioux Center (Iowa) at 5 p.m. in the Maas Ice Arena.

Aberdeen is scheduled to play the same two days in a tournament at Moorhead, Minn.
