Aberdeen stop for Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is May 17

Aberdeen will be one of several stops for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The run across South Dakota with the "Flame of Hope" is May 15-19. It ends at the opening ceremonies for the 2022 Special Olympics South Dakota Summer Games in Spearfish. The run in Aberdeen is May 17 at 9:15 a.m. from Simmons Middle School, at 1300 S. Third St., to Simmons Elementary School, which is also on South Third Street.

The torch run, which is held in partnership with local law enforcement, will visit 20 cities.

“The awareness and funds that the Torch Run has raised has created a movement and helped provide new opportunities, competitions and programs for the athletes of Special Olympics South Dakota," said Darryl Nordquist, president and CEO of Special Olympics South Dakota, in a news release.
