Aberdeen's Lucas Schaefbauer, Sioux Falls' Resse Jansa lead SDGA Amateur Championship after Day 1

Aug. 6—MITCHELL — Some of South Dakota's best amateur golfers took to Lakeview Golf Course on Friday for the first round of the SDGA Amateur Championship.

Aberdeen's Lucas Schaefbauer shot the best round in the men's amateur division with a 5-under, 67, and Sioux Falls' Jacob Otta finished one stroke back of him.

Mitchell's Josh Hartman is currently one of nine players in the men's amateur division who sits under par after his 1-under, 71.

Mitchell's Jeff Meyerink finished the first round at an even-par, 72, tying him for 10th.

In the women's amateur division, Sioux Falls' Resse Jansa leads the field by six strokes after shooting a 3-under, 69. Mitchell's Amanda Schelske shot the best round of any of the competitors from Mitchell, shooting a 5-over, 77.

The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Lakeview, and the third round also begins at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday at Lakeview.
