Aberg, Scott show way for Tech at Colonial

FORT WORTH — Ludvig Aberg and Calum Scott each shot two rounds in the 60s in Monday's first 36 holes of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, putting Texas Tech in the top half of the field at Colonial Country Club.

Aberg shot 69-67 and Scott carded 68-69, putting them tied for third and tied for sixth with most players still on the course in their second round.

Tech was in the clubhouse, having fired a 1-over-par first round and a 1-under second round. North Carolina had the clubhouse lead at 10-under, followed by Stanford at 5-under and Pepperdine at 2-under. Among teams still on the course, Arizona State was 3-under, three strokes ahead of Tech, and Oklahoma State and Texas were both 3-over.

Memphis transfer Tyran Snyders (71-73) and South Carolina transfer Jack Wall (73-76) had the last two counting scores toward the Red Raiders' team total in the first round, and Matthew Comegys (77-70) had a counting score in the second round. Comegys is a freshman from Plano West.

The 16-team field features six teams ranked in the top 10 in the Golfweek coaches poll: No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 6 Texas Tech and No. 9 Georgia Tech. Participating teams ranked in the top 20 are No. 12 Georgia, No. 14 Florida, No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 20 North Carolina.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.

Tech women's basketball

Single-game tickets for Texas Tech regular-season home games are on sale, the Tech athletic ticket office announced Monday.

The 20-game slate features nine games against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago and begins on Nov. 1 with an exhibition game against Midwestern State.

Other highlights of Tech's non-conference home schedule include the Nov. 7 home opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the Preseason WNIT featuring games against NCAA participants Jackson State and Colorado on Nov. 15-16.

Big 12 Conference play opens at United Supermarkets Arena on Dec. 31 when Tech hosts Iowa State.

Tech men's tennis

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Texas Tech junior Olle Wallin earned his second straight professional singles title after winning five matches at the Albuquerque 15k. Wallin beat No. 4 seed Maciej Rajski 7-6 (6), 7-5 in Sunday's final.

Tech's Dimitrios Azoidis and Franco Ribero made it to the doubles final of the tournament where they lost to Alexander Maggs and Jan Pucalka, 7-5, 7-5.

Wallin has won 12 matches in a row dating to Sept. 19 at the West Texas Pro Tennis Open in the qualifying round.

Wallin started his run in Albuquerque by beating No. 1 seed Emil Reinberg 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Then he took down Warren Wood, No. 7 seed Cash Hanzlik and No. 3 seed Osgar O'Hoisin to reach the championship match. Wallin overcame first-set deficits to win three-setters against Hanzlik and O'Hoisin.

Azoidis and Ribero reached the doubles final by beating No. 4 seeds Yuta Kikuchi and Isaac Nortey, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (8) in the semifinals.
