Aberg ties for 4th place in Calusa Cup

NAPLES, Fla. — Ludvig Aberg shot a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round of the Calusa Cup, tying for fourth and leading Texas Tech to a tie for fifth place.

Aberg birdied four of the last six holes at Calusa Pines Golf Club, including the par-4 17th and the par-5 18th. The senior from Sweden was in a group that finished 54 holes at 1-under, four strokes behind medalist Ryan Burnett (72) from North Carolina and two back of Vanderbilt's William Moll and Wake Forest's Michael Brennan, both of whom closed with 69s.

No. 3 North Carolina shot 4-under and won the team title by 10 strokes over Wake Forest. No. 5 Arizona State finished third at 7-over, followed by No. 1 Vanderbilt at 17-over and Texas Tech and Georgia at 21-over. Tech had finished no worse than third in its seven previous events this school year.

Tech's Jack Wall (73) tied for 22nd at 8-over, and Matthew Comegys (72) tied for 30th at 11-over. Calum Scott closed with an 83 and Tyran Snyders with a 77.

LCU men's golf

DENTON — Lubbock Christian University's Braxton Floyd shot 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round of the DBU Men's Classic and finished tied for 12th at even-par.

Floyd, a senior from Pampa, shot 71 and 74 in the first two rounds.

LCU came in 14th out of 15 teams. The 54-hole tournament was played over two days at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch. Host Dallas Baptist, with its B lineup, won the team championship using an 11-under final round to finish 10-under. Next behind the Patriots were UT Tyler at 9-over, the Dallas Baptist A lineup at 11-over, Mississippi College at 15-over and Southern Arkansas at 16-over.

LCU's other players were Hayden Bowman (78-78-77), Jackson Comer (73-78-82), Garrett Auger (81-75-80) and Clement Catteau (80-79-79).

WBU men's golf

ROCKY FACE, Ga. — Benjamin Lubker’s hole-in-one was the highlight for Wayland Baptist as the Pioneers finished seventh of 12 nationally ranked teams Tuesday at the Roadrunner Classic.

The sophomore from Denmark tied for 14th place in a field of 66. Lubker shot rounds of 78, 72 and 74 to finish 8-over. He aced the 151-yard par-3 11th.

Also playing for Wayland were Carson Grawunder (77-77-75), Jay Nathwani (84-76-71), Vlastimil Miler (80-76-78) and Zane Welborn (78-74-82).

Texas Tech's home baseball game Tuesday night against Abilene Christian University was postponed because of high winds. Tuesday afternoon, up to an hour before the scheduled game time, Lubbock experienced sustained winds up to 38 miles per hour with gusts to 64. The game will be rescheduled for a date to be determined, Tech said. ... Former Lubbock Christian University baseball player Lewis Stephenson finished in a three-way tie for second in the Texas Golf Association North Senior Amateur that concluded Tuesday in Benbrook. Stephenson, a Burleson resident, played for the win at Whitestone Golf Club and instead made double bogey to finish 6 over par for 36 holes, one behind winner John Schaefer from Plano.
