Abi Fisher: Husband, 29, appears in court charged with murder of ‘amazing teacher’
The husband of mother and teacher Abi Fisher has appeared in court after he was charged with her murder.
Matthew Fisher, 29, entered no plea as he appeared in the dock at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning, where the case was committed to the Crown court.
Mrs Fisher, 29, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, was last seen at her home in Walton Park Street shortly before midnight on Friday but did not tell anyone where she was going when she left, her family told police.
West Yorkshire Police launched a missing person investigation, and the community in Castleford conducted searches to try to find the mother-of-one.
Mrs Fisher’s body was later found in undergrowth off Southmoor Road near Brierley in South Yorkshire.
Matthew Fisher, of Walton Park Street, Castleford, was subsequently charged with her murder.
Mrs Fisher, who was described as "beautiful", and "amazing", married Matthew Fisher in 2017, and the pair had a baby girl six months ago following IVF treatments.
Tributes have poured in for the West Yorkshire teacher, with one pupil's mother saying: "Mrs Abi Fisher, a teacher at my daughter's school, an absolutely amazing person."
Family member Alex Johnson said: "I have no words”, while Hayley Power added: "Abi was a wonderful person and an amazing teacher to the children in our school.]
“Unbelievably kind and caring loved all her colleagues and the children in school.”
