Abilene Christian shoots past Arkansas State in women's basketball

Madi Miller poured in a game-high 18 points, and three other Abilene Christian players scored in double figures as the Wildcats beat Arkansas State 81-69 to wrap up the Oral Roberts Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Kamryn Mraz followed Miller with 16 points, while Sarah Griswold and Jamie Bonnarens added 13 to help ACU (5-1) go 2-0 at the tournament.

Trinitee Jackson led the Red Wolves (4-4) with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Morgan Wallace and Keya Patton had 11 points each, and Jireah Washington had 10.

The Wildcats hit 28 of 48 shots from the field, including 14 of 28 from 3-point range. Arkansas State hit just 6 of 19 3-pointers and 26 of 62 shots overall. Both teams hit 11 free throws.

Mraz hit 5 of 9 shots from the field – all from 3-point range. Miller and Bonnarens added three treys each. Bonnarens, a grad transfer, is 8 of 11 from beyond the 3-point line in her last two games, while Mraz has hit 8 of her last 13 treys in that span.

Arkansas State outrebounded ACU 35-25 and outscored the Wildcats 38-22 in the paint, but the Wildcats, who actually had one more turnover than the Red Wolves (16 to 15), made the most of the miscues – outscoring them 22-14 off turnovers.

ACU led by as much as 18 (40-22) with 2:26 left in the first half, but the Red Wolves closed the half with an 8-2 run to make it 42-30 at halftime. They opened the second half with a 10-0 run to pull within two (42-40) with 6:38 to play in the third quarter. But Miller and Bonnarens hit consecutive 3-point goals and ACU pulled away for the victory.

ACU plays former Southland Conference rival Nicholls State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Thibodaux, Louisiana before coming home to play Wright State on Dec. 12.
