Abilene Cooper boys edge San Angelo Lake View in soccer, girls nip Fort Worth Castleberry

Ramiro Padilla scored two goals and assisted on another as Cooper beat San Angelo Lake View 4-2 in a nondistrict boys soccer game Friday at the Cooper High School field.

Jose Euceda had six saves for the Coogs (2-9-1).

Cooper jumped on the Chiefs for two quick goals. Padilla scored on a penalty kick 7:52 into the game, and Guillermo Garcia scored two minutes later off an assist from Jefferson Caceres.

Lake View tied it before halftime. Tyler Dunn got the Chiefs’ first goal with 10:13 left in half, and Elvis Koech scored 3:39 before the break.

Kamune Mrisho broke the tie with 10:13 left in the game. Padilla had the assist, and Padilla got his second goal with 6:20 remaining, thanks to an assist from Joe Cortes.

Cooper plays Midland Greenwood at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a nondistrict game at Shotwell Stadium.

Lady Coogs edge Castleberry

Arianna Sanchez and Kayla Dillon both scored as Cooper beat Fort Worth Castleberry 2-1 in a nondistrict girls soccer game.

Sanchez scored off a pass from Aaliyah Jackson, and Dillon made it 2-0 thanks to a pass from Makayla Broughton with about 10 minutes left in the opening half.

Castleberry cut the lead in half on a goal by Michelle Gutierrez with 18:30 left in the game.

Cooper goalie Lexi McWhorter had five saves.

Cooper (5-4-1) plays Brownwood at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a nondistrict game at Shotwell Stadium.
