Abilene Cooper overcomes San Angelo Central in overtime for first victory

Chris Warren threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Malik Jackson to lift Abilene Cooper to a 41-38 victory over San Angelo Central in overtime Friday at Shotwell Stadium.

Central (1-2) overcame a 15-point deficit in the final minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime, and Chase Miller kicked a 24-yard field goal on the first possession in the extra period.

Warren, though, answered with the game-winning TD to Jackson to lift the Cougars to their first victory of the season.

Cooper (1-2) led 35-20, when the Bobcats made it a one-score game as Tyler Hill threw a 5-yard TD pass to Jacob English with 4:55 left in the game. Central converted on the two-point conversion to make it 35-28.

Austin Johnson returned a blocked punt 24 yards for another score, and Miller’s PAT tied the game at 35 with 1:40 remaining in regulation.

Johnson also returned an interception 27 yards for a TD, as the Bobcats raced to a 10-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Miller kicked field goals of 29 and 31 yards in the first half.

Warren, Cooper’s holder on field goals, ran for a 9-yard TD on a botched field goal attempt, and Daniel Bray ran 66 yards on the final play of the first half to send the Coogs into the locker room leading 28-20. D'Andre Ralston also had an 8-yard TD run in the half.
