Abilene High girls finish ninth at Class 5A state cross country meet

ROUND ROCK – Abilene High finished ninth at the Class 5A girls state cross country meet Saturday at Old Settler’s Park.

The Lady Eagles, competing as a team at state for the first time since 1999 and the fifth time in program history, scored 225 points.

Marin Murray finished 28th in 19 minutes, 23.50 seconds to lead AHS. Zoe Vann (35th, 19:31.9), Mason Murray (48th, 19:47.5), Jocelyn Smith (87th, 20:20.6) and Molly Bessent (122nd, 21:24.2) rounded out the Lady Eagles’ scorers.

AHS, according to coach Rosemary Martin, came into the meet as the ninth-rated Class 5A squad.

Georgetown’s McKenzie Bailey won the individual title (17:36.4) in the 5-kilometer race, followed by Cedar Park’s Isabel Conde Frankburg (17:45.6). Lubbock High’s Reese Pena was fourth (18:18.3) to lead District 4-5A runners.

Lucas Lovejoy won the team title (28 points), followed by Boerne Champion (85).

Jim Ned teams finish fifth, sixth

Eastland’s Andrew Hicks finished 12th at the Class 3A boys state cross country state meet in 16:36.90 Saturday morning at Old Settler's Park. Jim Ned’s Samuel Bryan was 14th (16:38.9), and teammate Chris Saling was 22nd (17:01.10).

Jim Ned finished fifth as a team with 183 points. Ruben Rodriguez (76th, 18:02.4), Seth Stephens (99th, 18:30.7) and Ethan Hogan (106th, 18:38.6) rounded out the Jim Ned scorers.

Lytle won the 3A boys title (72), followed by Eustace (82), Great Hearts Northern Oaks (126) and Holliday (179).

Ballinger’s Addison Martin had the best finish for Big Country girls at the Class 3A state meet Saturday morning, finishing 20th in 12:40.10.

Jim Ned finished sixth as a team with 200 points. Whitesboro (90) won the 3A girls team title, while Poth (108) was second, and Lytle (122) was third.

Early’s Madison Torrez was 28th (12:47.80), followed by Jim Ned’s Briana Jones (46th, 13:06.5), Hailey Von Willer (58th, 13:18.2), Elli Harle (68th, 13:29.7), Claire Von Willer (73rd, 13:32.2) and McKenna Bluhm (102nd, 13:57.3).

Jayton boys, Roby girls take 3rd

Jayton’s Jace Chisum finished third in the Class 1A girls race with a time of 12:34.4, and Priddy’s Sydney Partain was fourth (12:43.0).

Yet Roby finished ahead of both teams to nab third (135) behind Nazareth (107) and Springlake-Earth (126). Jayton was fourth (157). Eula was eighth (177).

Springlake-Earth’s Taytum Goodman won the individual title (11:11.2), while Miller Grove’s Shaylee Stracenor was second (12:26.2).

Hailee Garmer led Roby (12th, 13:07.5), followed by Lilly Benson (13th, 13:12.4), Chasity Benson (19th, 13:25.4) Taylor Jeffery (41st, 14:09.1) and Ivy Espinoza (50th, 14:32.1).

Daylee Chisum (10th, 13:01.5) followed Jace. Kamryn Nail (25th, 13:39.5), Emily Blankenship (42nd, 14:10.9) and Reese Redford (77th, 15:26.1) rounded out Jayton.

Eula was led by Hannah Cauthen (20th, 13:31.4), Hailie Cauthen (23rd, 13:38.2), Emma Damron (27th, 13:45.3), Addison Goodman (52nd, 14:33.4) and Kylee Hyer (55th, 14:45.3).

The Jayton boys finished third at the Class 1A meet with 81 points. Saltillo (73) won the team title, followed by Miller Grove (75).

Griffin Reel led the Jaybirds with a sixth-place finish (1727.6), while Cody Redding was 13th (17:48.5). Ben Blankenship (18th, 18:01.2), Andrew Lowery (19th, 19:11.4) and Jaydon Rivera (27th, 18:39.0) rounded out the Jayton scorers.

Irion County’s Tayte Cormier won the individual title (16:25.4), and Paint Rock’s Austin Magness was second (17:00.7).

Eula finished 11th as a team. Hayden King led the Pirates (32nd, 18:16.0), while Ricky Arispe (46th, 18:45.7), Clayton Gray (57th, 19:39.3), Blane Pack (64th, 19:48.4) and Isaiah Arispe (87th, 21:12.2) also scored for Eula.

Priddy’s Zack Ward was 43rd (18:41.6), and Zephyr’s Eli Williams was 44th (18:43.5).

FRIDAY'S RESULTS

Patanpatan's lead Hawley to 4th at state

Hawley’s Karl Patanpatan and Francis Patanpatan finished fourth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Bearcats to a fourth-place finish at the Class 2A state cross country meet.

Karl Patanpatan covered the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 14.2 seconds. Francis Patanpatan clocked in at 17:20.4.

Goldthwaite’s Connor Bartek won the title (16:13.8), beating Louise’s Antonio Martinez (17:02.7).

Coleman junior Jacob Ramirez was 24th (18:18.6).

Plains won the team title with 72 points, followed by Tenaha (79), Hamilton (103) and Hawley (155)

Rounding out the scoring for the Bearcats were Nowlen Davis (9th, 18:08.8), Tristan Comer (65th, 20:02.1) and Creed Ernst (77nd, 20:29.7).

In the girls race, Haskell juniors Asia Billington was 32nd (13:347), and Agatha Skeleton was 38th (13:42.0). De Leon sophomore Jessica Otwell was 41st (13:44.6).

Roscoe sophomore Zoey Welch was 85th (14:20.3) out of 151 runners.

Hamilton won the girls team title (76), followed by Gruver (139) and Christoval (147).

Big Spring boys take fourth

Big Spring seniors Adrian Solis and Isaac Gonzales finished 10th and 12th, respectively, to help the Steers finish fourth at the Class 4A state cross country meet.

Solis ran the 5K course in 16:42.2, while Gonzales was close behind at 16:52.0). Steers’ senior Agustin Salgada (27th, 17:26.0), sophomore Diego Rios (46th, 17:52.9) and senior Jordan Mitchell (59th, 18:15.1) rounded out the scoring for Big Spring.

Canyon won the team title (40), while La Feria was second (107), and San Elizario was third (147). Big Spring had 154 points.

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis won the individual title (15:47.5), while Gatesville’s Carlo Martinez was second (10:31.5).

Stephenville senior Rojish Gautam was 62nd (17:42.7), and Snyder senior Antonio Martinez was 77th (17:56.4).

Big Spring freshman Bergan Pinkley led the Big Country in the girls’ 4A race (82nd, 13:13.5).
