Abilene High grad Smith adds to rushing yardage total in Baylor victory over Kansas State

Abram Smith, a 2017 Abilene High grad, ran for 46 yards on 21 carries in Baylor’s 20-10 victory over Kansas State in a Big 12 Conference game Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas.

The senior running back also had a catch for 6 yards.

Smith goes into the regular-season finale ranked fifth in the nation in yards per carry (6.75), sixth in yards (1,249) and 32nd in TDs (11).

No. 9 Baylor (9-2, 6-2) plays Texas Tech (6-5, 3-5) at 11 a.m. Saturday in a conference game in Waco.

Last year, Smith was playing linebacker and had a game-high 13 tackles against the Red Raiders.

Morton plays in Texas Tech loss

Behren Morton, a 2020 Eastland grad, ran for a team-high 15 yards on two carries in Texas Tech’s 23-0 loss to Oklahoma State in a Big 12 Conference game in Lubbock.

Morton, a freshman quarterback, also completed 1 of 3 passes for 0 yards in a mop-up role.

Wright gets defensive in Tulsa win

Justin Wright, a 2016 Cooper grad, had seven tackles (two solo) in Tulsa’s 44-10 victory over Temple in an American Athletic Conference game in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Wright, a redshirt-junior linebacker, leads the Golden Hurricane with 70 tackles (36 solo) this season. He also had 51/2 tackles for a total of 20 yards, including 31/2 sacks. He also has an interception return for a TD.

Tulsa (5-6, 4-3) plays SMU (8-3, 4-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday in a conference game in Dallas.

AHS grad McMillon starts in TCU win

Coy McMillion, a 2017 Abilene High grad, started at center in TCU’s 31-28 victory over Kansas in a Big 12 Conference game in Fort Worth.

The 6-4, 304-pound senior has played in 46 consecutive games for the Horned Frogs (5-6, 3-5), who play Iowa State (6-5, 4-4) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a conference game in Ames, Iowa.

Novil gets sack in North Texas win

Dion Novil, a 2017 Wylie grad, had one tackle, a sack, in North Texas’ 49-7 victory over Florida International in a Conference USA game in Miami, Florida.

The senior nose tackle is eighth on the team with 40 tackles (21 solo), 61/2 for a loss of 34 yards, three sacks. He also has an interception, a fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.

North Texas (5-6, 4-3) plays No. 15 Texas-San Antonio (11-0, 7-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a conference game in Denton.

Washington gets stops in Tarleton win

Qua’Shawn Washington, a 2017 Abilene High grad and former ACU player, had two tackles, including a solo stop, in Tarleton’s 24-3 victory over Central Arkansas in nonconference game in Stephenville.

Washington, a redshirt-junior linebacker, started the last three games for the Texans, making 19 tackles (10 solo).

Wilson earns WAC honors

Ronnell Wilson, a 2016 Abilene High grad, was a second-team pick on the all-Western Athletic Conference team, which was announced last week.

Wilson did not play in his final college game with the Texans (6-5, 2-3).

The senior linebacker, who had been nursing a high ankle sprain, finished his Texas’ career with 349 career tackles, which is good for second on the Texans’ all-time tackle list. Tally Neal is the all-time leader with 613 from 1975-78.
