Abilene police make arrest in trio of aggravated offenses Monday

Believing three aggravated crimes committed Monday were connected, Abilene police Wednesday identified a suspect who had been arrested.

Ateh Boma, 26, was arrested in connection with all three crimes.

On Tuesday, police reported that a man, 50, was shot Monday at about 9:50 p.m. in a home in the 1500 block of Sycamore Street in south Abilene. The man was shot in the left shoulder and right hand.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the man was on his porch when he was approached by another man, who had a weapon.

The victim went inside to retrieve a firearm and came back to his porch. The men exchanged gunfire. The unknown assailant fled.

Another report stated that a male resident in the 1100 block of South 15th Street reported the theft of a pickup by a person with a weapon only minutes later. The 29-year-old victim was unharmed.

Next, about an hour later, a woman, 34, reported that she was robbed at gunpoint in the 4600 block of Maple Street, again on the south side of the city. A man with a weapon took her pickup.

The vehicle was located in the 4300 block of Oldham Lane. The first vehicle stolen was found near the intersection of South 27th and Maple streets.

Police believed the aggravated assault and two aggravated robberies were connected, given the time frame and proximity of locations.

A suspect was found and taken into custody, and later publicly identified.

He is jailed with bonds pending magistration, the police reported.
