Abingdon firefighters battle house fire Wednesday

ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) – Crews with the Abingdon Fire Department are working to extinguish a house fire Wednesday morning.

According to a news release from the Town of Abingdon, firefighters were “actively working to extinguish a fully engulfed house fire on Colonial Road,” as of 11:35 a.m. A social media post from the Abingdon Police Department said the fire occurred in the area of West Main Street and Colonial Road.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, town officials stated. The town stated no injuries had been reported.

Town leaders said a partnership between Abingdon’s fire and police department, the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Fire Rescue was pivotal in crews efficiently handling the fire.

More details on the fire are expected to be released at a later time.
