Will you be able to see Saturday's solar eclipse? See weather forecast across Florida

Let the countdown begin.

Although Florida residents won't see a true annular solar eclipse Saturday, residents will be able to see a partial solar eclipse Oct. 14, 2023, beginning at 10:38 a.m. CT/11:38 a.m. ET through 3:13 p.m. ET, according to timeanddate.com.

Of course, weather will play a huge role on how much you'll be able to see of the eclipse and while sunny skies are in the forecast for the Panhandle and North Florida, patchy to cloudy skies and possible showers increase for areas farther south.

Where can I see, what is the path of 'Ring of Fire' eclipse?

An annular solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun while at its farthest point from Earth. So the moon won't totally block the sun but leave a "ring of fire" visible around the moon.

States outside the path of "annularity" — which includes all of Florida — will see a partial eclipse. The moon will "take a bite" out of sun, covering between 67 percent to 73 percent, depending on where you are in the state.

Do not look directly at the sun, even during an eclipse. It could damage your eyes or even cause blindness. Some libraries are giving away free solar eclipse glasses.

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United States, and Canada.

The next annular solar eclipse visible from the United States won't happen until June 21, 2039. The only state in its path will be Alaska.
