Abortion should not be a legal or emotional struggle between a need or a want. Abortion should be a medical decision between a woman and her medical adviser. That would be an MD, a registered nurse, physicians assistant, psychiatrist or psychologist. The most important choice is one not yet available. Many women, including young girls cannot envision giving birth and caring for a baby, while they themselves are so young. What is needed is a modern, up-to-date, birth and adoption system, out in the open and available to all. A safe facility, nationwide, where pregnant woman can go for prenatal care, check in for a safe birth, and have their babies put up for adoption, if that is their choice. This would open up American adoption to those who are forced to pay huge fees to baby brokers, or have to find the in country of choice at that time and commit to travel, great expense and sometimes sad and unexpected results. These birth and adoption centers should be run by a combination of charity and governmental agencies. The financial and emotional cost would be much less than legal battles over abortion rights. This third choice would solve many problems before they even begin.

Race and math don't add up

I was astonished to find out, as per the article on mathematics education, that math is now black or white. However, some supposed math educators now want to add a racial dimension to what is taught in their classrooms. Our country has been torn apart by race hustlers who want to use our youth to further their political ends. Equity Is not equality. It attempts to demand equal outcomes rather than equality of opportunity that provides every student with the tools to excel. Once Black incarceration rates enter the picture, as Oklahoma City teacher Telannia Norfar has done, mathematics becomes a political issue. Black children are being shortchanged by those who want to paint every minority student as a victim, instead of showing them that they can overcome any obstacle if they persist at the task and are supported by their parents and teachers. As Martin Luther King said so eloquently, it’s the content of one's character not the color of their skin by which they should be judged.

Moms for Liberty anything but

There’s a new group in town and it’s not as innocuous as they want you to believe. Moms for Liberty is a broad-based group of conservative Republicans who think their way is the only way to educate our children. What they are really doing is pressing their ultra-conservative agenda of disinformation through disruption and confusion. They propose arming teachers, removing any true history out of the curriculum and don’t even mention Critical Race Theory, something they know nothing about.

Empowering parents is a potent slogan. It’s also vague and its policy implications aren’t clear. Funded by the deep pockets of the Republican party, beware of where this is headed, if you want quality education for your children, strong public schools and honest and truthful teachings.
