A woman who was caught posing for photographs while hanging off a railing on a Royal Caribbean ship has been banned for life by the cruise company.

Fellow passenger Peter Blosic branded the unnamed woman an “absolute idiot”, adding: “You cannot fall off of a ship unless you are acting like a moron!”

He took a picture of the spectacle, which shows the woman posing having climbed over a balcony railing on the starboard (right) side of the liner.

Mr Blosic reported the incident to guest services, reports the Sun, and the woman was identified by staff, who kicked her off the ship in Jamaica.

“Earlier this week on the Allure of the Seas a guest was observed recklessly and dangerously posing for a photo by standing on her stateroom balcony railing with the help of her companion,” a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told Fox News.

“Security was notified and the guests were later debarked in Falmouth, Jamaica, as a result of their actions and are now banned for life from sailing with Royal Caribbean.”

Passengers are prohibited from “sitting, standing, laying or climbing on, over or across any exterior or interior railings or other protective barriers, or tampering with ship’s equipment, facilities or systems”, according to Royal Caribbean’s guest conduct policy.

Failure to comply can ultimately lead to passengers being removed from the ship when it next docks.

Just this summer, The Independent reported on two separate instances of passengers falling to their deaths from cruise ships.

A young girl fell from a cruise ship in Puerto Rico after reportedly being accidentally dropped overboard by her grandfather.

The American toddler, believed to have been 18 months old, plunged from the 11th deck of the Freedom of the Seas while the boat was docked in San Juan in July.

In August 2019, an Australian man died after falling overboard on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of Seas cruise ship, in spite of rescue efforts.

The incident occurred as the ship was making its way to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
