Academy Award-nominated film producer among inductees to Central York Hall of Fame

Film producer Neal Dodson has been nominated for an Academy Award. He has won a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award for his work. He has worked with Robert Redford, Sam Shepard and Ben Affleck.

And now, the York native and member of the class of 1996 at Central York High School is getting some recognition in his hometown - being enshrined in the inaugural class of the Central York Performing Arts Hall of Fame. The hall of fame is intended to recognize and honor Central York High School alumni, teachers and others who have achieved a high level of excellence in the performing arts.

Among the movies Dodson has produced are the Academy Award-nominated "Margin Call" and "All is Lost" − and the thriller "A Most Violent Year."

Other members of the inaugural class include:

  • Paul Grill, a former 35-year Central York music teacher and band director.

  • Former music teacher Kenneth H. Matthews, who served as middle school band director from 1968 to 2003.

  • Music theater and television actor Robert J. Spencer, a 1987 Central York Graduate.

  • Former band, orchestra and choral student John Villella, a 1972 graduate who went on to serve as vice president of West Chester University.

This first class of inductees will be honored on Oct. 26 at Central York High School. The awards will be presented during the Fall Pops Concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. A formal reception will take place before the concert in the high school’s atrium at 5:45 p.m.
