Academy Sports + Outdoors opening first store in Panama City, hiring 60 workers
PANAMA CITY — Buying athletic wear and equipment in Panama City could soon get much easier.
National sporting goods chain Academy Sports + Outdoors is set to open its first Panama City store this summer, a Tuesday press release from the company announced. The company expects to hire 60 workers for the store.
The new location will mark Academy Sports’ 10th store in Florida.
“We’re excited to open our store in Panama City and show the area what it means to have fun out there,” Sam Johnson, Academy Sports + Outdoors’ executive vice president of retail operations, said in the press release.

According to the press release, Academy’s Panama City location will invite new customers to kickstart fun by providing value, a large assortment of sports and outdoors products, services and knowledge they need to do the activities that they love and make new memories. Panama City customers can expect to find a unique assortment from top brands like Nike, YETI, Adidas, Ugly Stik, KastKing, Garmin, Humminbird, plus Academy’s private brands like Magellan Outdoors, Freely, H20 Express and Mosaic.
Whether families are planning on spending the day at the beach, hosting friends in their backyard or gearing up for their next game, Academy’s wide assortment of sports and outdoor products are curated to make the most out of every budget, the press release states.
Academy’s new store will also provide a dynamic and fun shopping experience while offering convenient options, such as buy online pick-up in store service, curbside pick-up service and free shipping on online orders over $25. Customers can also take advantage of a suite of in-store services that will include free assembly on grills and bikes, scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, propane exchange and the ability to purchase hunting and fishing licenses.
