Academy Sports plans Lafayette grand opening starting April 21

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Academy Sports + Outdoors, the latest retailer picking Lafayette for a new location, rolls out the welcome mat to customers on April 21.

The festivities planned include sales and an appearance by a Purdue University favorite, the Purdue Boilermaker Train.

The new location will be in Lafayette Pavilions, 100 S. Creasy Lane. The shopping center includes Hobby Lobby.

The three-day grand opening celebration — April 21 through April 23 — will include sales on such items as outdoor grills, kids' bikes and Purdue apparel and accessories.

The first 200 customers (18 years or older) to visit the store on grand opening weekend will receive a gift card valued between $20 - $500, according to the company's announcement.

Originally founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas, Academy has 268 stores across 18 states.
