Acadiana schools reopen today after day of flooding

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Schools in parishes that experienced heavy flooding on Wednesday will reopen on Thursday.

Superintendents from St. Landry, Jeff Davis, and Evangeline Parishes made the decision to reopen the schools in the early morning hours after being able to assess the weather that happened overnight.

St. Landry Schools posted on its Facebook page at 5:01 a.m. Thursday that schools would be open despite lingering issues.

“While we acknowledge that some roadways may be impassable, bus drivers will assess the situation accordingly when picking up students,” the post reads. “We apologize for the early notification and appreciate your understanding.”

Acadia and Iberia Parishes also announced earlier that schools would reopen on Thursday.
