10. Catholic-New Iberia (2-4) at Delcambre (4-2)

After an 0-4 start, it was a question for Catholics-New Iberia on which way its season was going to go. The Panthers have answered that -- winners of their past two, including their District 8-2A opener last week over Ascension Episcopal, 20-17. Delcambre is looking to get things back on track after being blown out by Franklin in its district opener last Friday. This is an evenly matched contest, but Catholic stays hot.

Prediction: Catholic-New Iberia 18, Delcambre 15

9. St. Martinville (3-3) at St. Charles Catholic (4-2)

St. Martinville continues its string of tough non-district games, this time traveling to St. Charles, the reigning Division III state champion. TEURLINGS TAKES DOWN WESTGATERebels remain unbeaten, knock off reigning Class 4A state champs in Westgate

8. Westgate (5-1) at North Vermilion (3-3), Thursday

There may not be a team in Acadiana that wants to get back onto the field more than Westgate. The Tigers lost at home to Teurlings Catholic in the District 4-4A opener and were without star senior safety and Texas commit Derek Williams. Will Williams return against North Vermilion, which got drummed by St. Thomas More last week? Westgate shouldn’t need Williams.

Prediction: Westgate 35, North Vermilion 12

7. Lafayette (4-2) at Sam Houston (3-3)

A pivotal District 3-5A showdown. Both teams are thought to be on the tier below Acadiana and Carencro in the district race, so the winner of this one could establish itself in the pecking order. Grayson Saunier has been great at quarterback for Lafayette, and he’ll lead his team to a road win.

Prediction: Lafayette 46, Sam Houston 38

6. Sacred Heart (4-2) at St. Edmund (3-2)

In the race to keep up with Catholic-Pointe Coupee in District 6-1A, this is a key game for St. Edmund, which won 49-8 over North Central in its district opener last Friday. The Blue Jays will continue to lean on running back Kevon Johnson, and they shouldn’t have an issue.

Prediction: St. Edmund 42, Sacred Heart 21

5. Jeanerette (3-3) at Vermilion Catholic (6-0)

Vermilion Catholic’s defense has pitched four shutouts this season and has allowed just 30 points in 2022. the biggest question in this District 7-1A game: Where will the points come from for Jeanerette? It likely won’t be many against Class 1A’s No. 3 team.

Prediction: Vermilion Catholic 33 Jeanerette 8

4. Erath (3-3) at Kaplan (4-2), Thursday

Kaplan and Erath are jockeying for position in District 5-3A. And that what’s makes this game important. Erath lost its district opener to St. Martinville last week while Kaplan knocked off Crowley to go 1-0 in district play. This game will be a tight one.

Prediction: Kaplan 22, Erath 17

3. Opelousas Catholic (3-3) at Catholic-Pointe Coupee (6-0), Thursday

Friday’s key District 6-1A showdown against Class 1A No. 9-ranked team Catholic-Pointe Coupee is the reason why Opelousas Catholic scheduled such a tough non-district schedule with the likes of Oak Grove and Southern Lab. The Vikings railroaded Westminster Christian, 52-0, last week and haven’t given up a point in two weeks. Opelousas Catholic will be ready for Catholic-Pointe Coupee.

Prediction: Opelousas Catholic 16, Catholic-Pointe Coupee 14

2. John Curtis (5-1) at Acadiana (5-1)

Talk about a juggernaut battle. Acadiana welcomes Class 5A perennial power John Curtis campus for what should be an electric matchup between to state championship-caliber teams. John Curtis’ lone loss is to another 5A power in Zachary. The Rams have rebounded from their season-opening loss to Lafayette Christian and are playing as well as anyone in the state. Bring your own mouthpieces for this one.

Prediction: John Curtis 28, Acadiana 27

1. Teurlings Catholic (6-0) at Lafayette Christian (5-1), Thursday

It doesn’t get any bigger than a district showdown involving two top 7 teams. No. 7 Teurlings enters the District 4-4A bout against LCA, ranked No. 1 in 4A, off its biggest win of the season at Westgate. The Knights have reclaimed the top spot in the 4A poll, and quarterback JuJuan Johnson has had a special season. Led by a good quarterback of their own in junior Preston Welch and senior athlete Kentrell Prejean, will the Rebels remain unbeaten?

Prediction: Teurlings Catholic 40, Lafayette Christian 38
