Accident claims life of worker at Woodbridge food processing plant, official says

WOODBRIDGE – A food processing plant employee was killed Friday in a job-related accident, according to township spokesperson.

The name of the female victim has not been released, the township spokesperson said.

Police responded around 12:30 p.m. to an apparent industrial accident at the UPF Food Processing plant, 1 Amboy Ave.

“We are devastated by the loss of our longtime employee, who was a beloved member of our company. Our deepest condolences go out to her daughter at this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the official investigation,” said Ken Mayer, United Premium Foods CEO, in statement.

United Premium Foods manufactures a range of food products and fresh pet food, according to the company's website.

Equipment used at the plant includes high-capacity blenders, bowl choppers, protein injectors, ovens, blast chillers, high-speed deli slicing and retail packaging, the company's website says.

The investigation will be conducted by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the federal agency regulating workplace safety, the township spokesperson said.
