An accident on the set of Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ sequel injured several crew members, a studio spokesperson said — and four people remained hospitalized Friday, two days after the incident.

A total of six crew members were treated for non-life-threatening burn injuries, reported Variety.

“The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those who were impacted immediately received necessary care,” said a statement from a Paramount spokesperson.

Those who remained hospitalized as of Friday were “all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment,” according to the statement.

No one in the movie’s cast was hurt, said media reports.

The incident took place towards the end of a shooting day in Morocco as a stunt was being filmed, Variety reported. No other details of what happened were relesaed.

When news of the accident broke on Friday, some online pointed to the fact the production is filming overseas in places like Morocco and Malta where the filmmakers can hire non-unionized and thus vulnerable workers.

“You forgot to mention that it is operating with mostly non unionized crews, like many of the Hollywood productions abroad,” tweeted Malta native Matthew Maggi, responding to a Deadline story about the incident.

Maggi is a member of the Alliance of Practitioners, Artists, and Crew for Hollywood Abroad (APACHA), and recently wrote about his time working on a Netflix production in Italy, for the Times of Malta.

Maggi claims that local hires worked without physical contracts on the production, and that Hollywood continues to look abroad to take advantage of powerless workers.

For the “Gladiator” production, Paramount maintains that they have the crew’s best-interests in mind.

“The well-being of the cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us, and we have strict health and safety procedures in place on all our productions,” the spokesperson added.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 film will feature Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington. Its director, Scott, also directed the original.

The original “Gladiator” film won Best Picture at that year’s Academy Awards — and its star, Russell Crowe, won the Oscar for Best Actor.

The sequel is currently scheduled for theatrical release on November 22, 2024.
